ITS planning and design
SKM has capabilities and experience in most areas of ITS strategy and planning, from early development of ideas and concepts, through to preliminary and detailed design of:
- traffic management and control systems
- traveller information and mobility systems
- electronic tolling and fee collection systems
- road, rail and public transport control
- communications systems.
Project delivery and asset management
SKM has a large team of ITS staff that specialises in project design, development and management services, including drafting functional and technical specifications, vendor and asset procurement (tender preparation, evaluation and administration), ITS infrastructure installation, commissioning, testing, operation and maintenance.
Technical evaluation and client advisory services
SKM conducts strategic and technical evaluations of a wide range of ITS applications and technologies. Our skilled and experienced practitioners can devise ITS treatments to complex transportation problems in areas such as private and public transport infrastructure, traveller information systems and freight logistics. Our specialists using research methodologies and modelling tools can assess the impacts of these treatments before implementation. We use these capabilities to produce insightful and practical research reports for use in project and opportunity evaluations.
Electrical, control, security and telecommunications engineering
SKM has core skills in power network design, data communications systems and network infrastructure that support a range of ITS systems design and applications. Such core skills include video and CCTV detection and information display technologies, SCADA systems, electronic tolling and fee collection, tunnel early warning and security systems.
Transport engineering and ITS infrastructure
SKM’s ITS team is tightly coupled with our road and rail engineering teams to provide end-to-end technical design and delivery skills for major road and rail projects. Working closely with our civil design engineers, our ITS team is able to design and implement the full range of solutions that typically accompany ITS services, including conduit location design, motorway ramp and junction design, design of structures, gantries and other ITS physical support infrastructure.
