Leading projects firm, Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael McLeary as Executive Project Manager – Mine Closure Planning.
Michael has extensive experience and knowledge in the mining and exploration fields, predominantly in the areas of mine closure and remediation, environment and safety.
For the past decade, Michael has worked in the Mines Departments with both the Queensland and South Australian State Governments and, prior to that spent about 10 years in the exploration industry with Rio Tinto and CRA Exploration Pty Ltd.
In more recent times, Michael has played a key role in developing a strategic approach to managing risks associated with South Australia’s legacy mines.
Michael brings a range of skills to the Mine Closure team at SKM, including:
- Experience in strategic planning, resource management, environmental risk management, managing closure activities and the production of a range of reports
- Strong management experience with proven ability to manage the overall operations on-site including staff supervision, compliance, occupational health and safety and financial management (such as budgets)
- Experience in project management with demonstrated success in following projects through from the beginning to end and achieving all set goals and objectives within the expected / given time frames
- In depth understanding of industry policies, procedures, legislation and regulations
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively liaise with a wide range of people in order to ensure the successful operation of an organisation
- Results driven, self motivated and leads through example
- Confident with demonstrated experience in conducting presentations and communicating important information to vast audiences of varying sizes.
