For Wireless Network Applications
There has been an increased demand for broad band wireless communications. Service providers require more efficient ways to implement and expand wireless networks. Not just to locate base stations, but also to assess customer potential and even identify service availability for individual customers. Accurate and current terrain and building data provide wireless system developers, both engineers and marketers, with the information they require to be competitive.
Modelling the Urban Environment
Detailed models of the urban environment are also becoming an important resource to planners and local government. Their uses include accurate flood modelling, asset management, and shadow modelling and community consultation just to name a few.
Digital Surface Models
Digital surface models include the terrain, buildings, trees and features effecting line of line of sight both point to point and point to multi point. These surface models can also be used to better model the movement of flood water by allowing for building obstructions and help planner assess the impact of new development on the existing urban landscape.
Digital Terrain Models (DTMs)
Digital terrain Models are surface models of the ‘bald earth’ without trees or buildings. When used in conjunction with surface models they provide detailed information about building heights and volume of buildings and trees.
Polygon Outlines
Polygon outlines of buildings, trees, pavements, grassed areas and water bodies are an essential resource for RF modelling. Buildings are ready for attribution of address or other demographic information. Both buildings and trees come attributed with heights.
Source Data
SKM has access to the best source data sets available and has developed data capture techniques to efficiently extract land use and hight information. These data sets include SKM’s own AUSIMAGE high-resolution aerial photography and Digital Globe high resolution satellite imagery, for which SKM is the Australian distributor. SKM has access to the best source data sets available for all locations around the world.
Quality Assurance
Accuracy and completeness are very important for network modelling as a single incorrect feature can have a major impact across a network. SKM have developed rigorous quality assurance procedures to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and completeness.
Accurate Orthophotos
Orthorectified aerial photography or high-resolution pan-sharpened (natural colour) satellite imagery are produced by removing senor tilts and other distortions cause by variations in the underlying terrain. These accurate photo-maps are an essential tool to help orientate data users and provide additional detailed information about buildings and neighbourhoods in the data sets.
