SKM has played a lead role in the redevelopment of Bristol’s Broadmead Shopping Centre as structural engineer of the spectacular glazed roof over Cabot Circus.
The precinct roof at Cabot Circus has been created by artist Nayan Kulkarni in partnership with the main scheme architects Chapman Taylor and SKM.
The free-form shell-shaped glass roof floats between the buildings above the Central Square and streets of Cabot Circus. At 5,800 square metres and composed of some 2,800 panes of glass.
The roof is the first of its kind in the UK, creating a dynamic, light, airy and open environment, while providing protection from the elements, and was recently recognised as one of five winning projects at the 2009 UK Structural Steel Design Awards.
