Channel Deepening Project

Sinclair Knight Merz is currently involved in the Channel Deepening Project required to establish access for 14m draft vessels to the Port of Melbourne. The project includes dredging of some 30,000,000 m3 from Port Phillip Heads also known as The Rip, South Channel, Port Melbourne Channel and the Yarra River and the associated infrastructure works including upgrading of Swanson Dock, Appleton Dock, Holden Dock and Gellibrand Pier plus demolition and revetment works. SKM role includes extensive site investigation, project management for lowering Melbourne’s five trunk services and an independent engineering review for the entire project, which is due for completion in December 2006.
