The City Road Basin development is an example of a progressive, sustainable and responsible urban development. The development will incorporate good practice environmental principles for usage, energy conservation and water usage, incorporating sustainable materials and technology wherever possible.
The development will comprise a mix of new buildings including shops, restaurants, leisure facilities and new private and affordable housing including two slender towers of 26 and 35 storeys. High quality vibrant public spaces will be provided around the dramatic urban water space.
Resident parking will be provided over 3 levels, 2 of which are below ground.
Engineering services are being developed to meet the sustainability Assessment criteria set down by the local authority and in line with BRE guidelines for Carbon Index , air leakage, water consumption, embodied energy and construction waste generation. Particular attention is being paid to glazing and solar shading to reduce heat gain and methods of providing heating and hot water services including the possible use of underfloor heating and cooling systems. Ventilation systems are being considered for communal and individual requirements looking at energy recovery, energy use and operability/ongoing maintenance considerations. A study into the possible use of a CHP scheme for the development is being undertaken.
