Clean Waterways Program, Sydney NSW

 Planning for Water Reuse

Signature Project_HEB002

Sydney is faced with a significant water supply problem as its population increases. Water reuse is seen as an environmentally friendly option. As part of the Clean Waterways Programme, Sinclair Knight Merz played a major role in a study to evaluate the potential for regional-wide water reuse as a means of both conserving potable resources and minimising the discharge of treated wastewater to the environment.

The study management plan divided the project into the following eight distinct tasks or work packages needed to complete the project:

  • water resources evaluation
  • market surveys
  • the identification of potential projects
  • the development of reuse goals
  • the development of reuse guidelines
  • project evaluations
  • the formulation of implementation plans
  • community consultation.

This approach will enable Sydney Water to determine the potential to supply water-related services in the context of the total water quality cycle, while meeting the community needs in an environmentally sound manner.

The participation of Sinclair Knight Merz in the Water Reuse Planning Study brings the following benefits to your project:

  • expertise in strategic planning and project management
  • skills in water reuse techniques.
