Project Highlight - GIS Strategic Operational Cons  Project Highlight - GIS Strategic Operational Cons

Sinclair Knight Merz was engaged to facilitate the conversion of electrical network information for the owners, covering an area of over 5000 km2 on the eastern side of New Zealand’s north island.

The client was undertaking a number of strategic and structural changes by incorporating spatial and other IT data sets into daily operations.

The information was sourced from a range of hard copy maps, plans and field notes, then loaded into the client’s Smallworld GIS. environment.

Sinclair Knight Merz digitised the raw data over a scanned DCDB into a common graphical format. Elements were then appropriately attributed and the whole then bulk loaded into the clients’ Smallworld model using a specially developed translator.

The GIS implementation has permitted more efficient asset management, better customer services and has delivered an improved bottom line to the company.
