Sinclair Knight Merz, in association with Pro-Tech Engineers and Constructors, was engaged to design, project manage and supervise the construction of a concrete products factory at Miao-Li. The factory was designed to produce concrete sewer pipes, tunnel liner segments and a range of other precast concrete products, with an output of 120 000 t/a.
Sinclair Knight Merz carried out the majority of the design, while ProTech provided input on local Taiwanese standards and practices. In addition, Pro-Tech carried out a portion of the detailed design. During the construction stage, a Sinclair Knight Merz construction superintendent was supported by up to six Pro-Tech construction supervisors.
The factory is located in the Chung Hsing Industrial Area, which features a centralised wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater discharges from the factory are designed to be treated by the plant prior to its discharge into the Hou Lung River.
