Sinclair Knight Merz provided the project management, design, and construction supervision for major works at Sydney Airport. The work involved the provision of all infrastructure both ‘landside’ and ‘airside’, for the expansion of the Ansett Australia terminal and the reconstruction of the Australian Airlines terminal.
Construction work was carried out on new aircraft parking positions, aprons and connecting taxiways for the expansion of the domestic terminals, and the international freight apron.
The project involved minimum disruption to operations during the construction of more than 100 000 m2 of bituminous concrete pavement, along with more than 44 000 m2 of concrete pavements. Concrete was used to minimise the need for future maintenance on critically loaded pavements. The extension and upgrade of the stormwater systems, consisting of 4700 m of concrete pipes, was also carried out. New ducts, totalling 14 000 m, were built to carry electrical cables for communications and lighting. Underground fuel lines and hydrants were also installed, along with apron floodlighting.
The participation of Sinclair Knight Merz in the upgrade at Sydney Airport brings the following benefits to your project:
-
expertise in contract administration, schedule of rates and lump sum contracts
-
construction supervision of high quality, high strength pavements, with excellent client and contractor liaison.
