Economic Impact Study Cider Production Australia

Project Highlight - Economic Impact Study Cider Pr

SKM Economics, part of the Sinclair Knight Merz Group, was commissioned to undertake an economic impact study of the operations of Bulmer Australia. The study aimed to determine the economic impact of the client’s cider production on the Australian economy.

The purpose of the project was to determine the current economic value of Bulmer’s operations in Australia by using input-output multipliers to measure both the initial output and flow-on effects into different sectors of the economy.

The objectives of the project were to determine:

  • direct economic inputs including ingredients, bottling, plant and production, transport, advertising, operating and employees
  • indirect economic value for apple growers, glass manufacturers, apple juice crushing and employment.

The report also discussed other issues such as regional development, import replacement, industry development, and professional management and staff training.

The involvement of SKM Economics in this project demonstrates its skills in the following areas:

  • experience in carrying out economic impact studies
  • knowledge of the cider production industry.
