Anthony Hunt Associates was selected as part of the Don Valley Partnership to design the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. This is the largest of the nine multi-sports hubs around the country providing a platform for the cross fertilisation of ideas and experiences between sports, and the development of world class support services to our leading athletes
The project includes the high performance training facilities for Olympic athletics. This incorporates indoor training facilities, sports medicine and sports science, a 200m indoor athletics track, three netball courts, four judo courts, a badminton hall and a large table tennis area.
All facilities are designed to international playing standards.
Features:
- Large span steel roofs.
- Structures in composite concrete/steel to provide naturally ventilated buildings of an environmentally friendly design.
- Design of heavy foundations using vibro-compaction techniques.
- Major earthworks design in contaminated ground to form building footprint, car parks and access roads.
- Curved roof sheeting to avoid the use of purlins.
