For the proposed office development at this very difficult site, the corner of West Port and Lady Lawson Street, AMA (New Town) Ltd held an invited design competition. Our winning entry uses an exposed reinforced concrete frame to provide a low energy building with displacement ventilation providing over 48,000 sq ft of Class A office accommodation. The steeply sloping site required excessive ground retention on three sides against the listed College of Art building, tenements in West Port and Lady Lawson Street, in the form of contiguous piled walling using mini piles.
