Sinclair Knight Merz completed a Master Plan for HMAS Kuttabul, Garden Island, together with master plans for HMAS Cairns in Queensland, and HMAS Albatross in Nowra, NSW. These master plans covered the comprehensive assessment of existing conditions and zoning requirements.
The master plan for HMAS Kuttabul provided the framework for the Stage 4 Garden Island Modernisation Project proposal, also prepared by Sinclair Knight Merz. This proposal included plans to extend the service ducts around the island, upgrade the main fleet base services, provide additional crane capacity, modify a wharf and support facilities for berthing of the new Collins Class submarines, rationalising buildings used by Navy on the island and works related to opening areas of the island to the public.
