Maggie’s Centre, Inverness Scotland

The £750,000 Maggie’s Centre is a place for people who have cancer, their families and friends. It was founded by Maggie Keswick Jencks and guided by her experiences as a cancer care patient. With an emphasis on relaxation, the design concept focused on creating an organic form. Despite many structural design challenges, Sinclair Knight Merz opted for a stressed skin timber building as the most appropriate solution for both aesthetics and ease of construction.

By nature, the stressed skin structure provides a smooth planar effect of highly finished ply, creating an internal and uncluttered fusion of engineering and architecture.
