Naval Aviation Systems Program

A Defence initiative required the integration of 86 staff in the Naval Aviation Project Office based in Canberra with Navy Aviation Logistic Management Squadron (NALMS) at HMAS Albatross, near Nowra, on the south coast of New South Wales. This new unit is called the Naval Aviation Systems Program Office (NASPO).

The objective of this project was to prepare internal approval documentation for the facilities required by NASPO. This included development of a scope of works, optional cost estimates and a business case analysis.

Sinclair Knight Merz was appointed as the study leader to prepare an Estate Capability Proposal (ECP). This followed our previous successful project management of the relocation of the NALMS from Sydney to HMAS Albatross.

As part of the development of the ECP, Sinclair Knight Merz examined broad approaches (new buildings, refurbishment and temporary arrangements) and prepared a number of concept plans based on the provision of a new building in accordance with relevant industry and Commonwealth standards.

The involvement of Sinclair Knight Merz in the NASPO facilities requirements project will bring the following benefits to your project:

  • an understanding of Defence’s facilities planning process
  • knowledge of military and government standards for facilities and an ability to conceptualise defence facilities requirements
  • experience in Defence works approval procedures and the provision of supporting documentation.
