Sinclair Knight Merz was commissioned to provide a conceptual layout for a new limestone mixing station. This new station was to replace the existing operation that had been in place since the early 1960s.
The redesigned station consisted of four 500 t capacity bins, one for each of three grades for limestone and one for ironstone. The discharge from the bins was continuously weighed to provide on-the-belt blending. The bins were designed for mass flow, and to ensure continuous feed the bin shape was investigated by TUNRA, with whom Sinclair Knight Merz has a strong affiliation.
The concept design had to take into consideration the ability to construct and dry commission as much of the new plant as was possible while the existing plant was operating. Down time while the new and existing plant were connected also had to be minimised.
Sinclair Knight Merz was further commissioned to provide the technical and contractual documents for a Design and Construct tender.
The involvement of Sinclair Knight Merz in the design and documentation of this upgrade brings the following benefits to your project:
-
the ability to understand and develop concept designs for the upgrade of existing plants
-
the experience to "design in" plant that can be installed during ongoing plant operation
-
the expertise and personnel to provide design and documentation for complete contract letting.
