Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) will contribute to the design and construction of Victoria’s Peninsula Link Project recently announced by the Victorian Government as part of the Southern Way Consortium.
The A$759 million Peninsula Link Project involves the construction of 27 kilometres of roadway, with two lanes in each direction, from its connection with the EastLink toll road in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs to the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Mt Martha.
The Government appointed the Southern Way Consortium, made up of Bilfinger Berger Project Investments, Royal Bank of Scotland, Abigroup and Bilfinger Berger Services Australia, to finance and build the new road and operate it for a period of 25 years.
The project is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project to design, construct, finance, operate and maintain the road and is the first road PPP in Australia that will be toll-free and based on an availability charge.
As part of the 27 kilometres of roadway, the project includes:
- 11 local road connections;
- More than 35 bridges;
- A 22 km shared use path;
- A roadside control centre;
- Fauna crossing underpaths; and
- Community partnerships with the McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park and CERES.
Construction work on Peninsula Link, will begin shortly with completion scheduled for early 2013.
