
The Inner City Bypass project was a major initiative of Brisbane City Council, undertaken to reduce traffic congestion in the central business district and Fortitude Valley areas to enhance the "Brisbane - Livable City" concepts and urban renewal. The company, in association with specialist sub consultants Burns Bridge Australia, the Transport Technology Division of the Department of Main Roads, Qld, and solicitors Allen Allen & Hemsley, provided an integrated team to help the client manage the delivery of the project under a design construct and maintain contract.
The project incorporated the construction of:
- substantial earthworks and embankments in an urban environment
- 13 major road bridges over Queensland Rail facilities and associated local roads
- a 450 m long cut and cover tunnel through the Exhibition Show Grounds
- a 100m long diaphragm wall underpass at Breakfast Creek.
The firm undertook the following duties as superintendent for the contract with a team of engineers and technical staff:
- design review and comment
- site surveillance, monitoring and environmental auditing of work progress and quality
- audit and certification of monthly progress payments
- variation assessment and verification
- claims assessment and review
- traffic management plan review and comment
- relationship management.
