SKM was the structural engineer for the roof structure of Terminal 4, Barajas International Airport and provided scheme designs for substructure and architectural metalwork.
The expanded airport is the biggest in Spain, handling 70 million passengers per year, enabling it to compete with major European hub airports (Paris, Frankfurt and Heathrow). The new terminal provides improved facilities for the existing Barajas International Airport, originally constructed in 1977 and situated 15km to the east of Madrid.
New works included a major transport interchange (bus, rail, metro and landside transit link to the existing terminals).
