
Sinclair Knight Merz undertook the design of the Middlewich Eastern Bypass for Cheshire County Council and Pochin Developments Ltd, which was procured in three separate phases under Section 278 of the Highways Act. For the final phase, which completes the bypass, Sinclair Knight Merz has prepared a statutory environmental impact assessment to support the planning application.
In addition to providing a much needed bypass for the congested centre of Middlewich, the highway provides high capacity access to major industrial developments on the strategic Midpoint 18 development site located on the outskirts of Middlewich. Work included:
- Design of 4km of WS1 urban highway
- Design of associated major / minor junctions and new roundabout
- Design of existing highway improvements including re-modelling of a major roundabout
- Design of culverted crossings of Sanderson’s Brook
- Design and coordination of drainage and utility services infrastructure
- Flood risk assessment of impacts on floodplain
- Geotechnical and environmental investigations
- Environmental assessments
- Specification of environmental mitigation measures.
