Sinclair Knight Merz, in association with AEA Technology of the UK, provided project management services for the preparation of contract documents and the tendering process for the Replacement Nuclear Research Reactor to be built at Lucas Heights, south of Sydney.
The reactor will be a pool type reactor in the power range of up to 20 MW. It will satisfy all modern operational and safety standards and will meet Australia’s needs for neutrons into the 21st century, providing world class radioisotope production and scientific capabilities.
Sinclair Knight Merz and AEA Technology assisted ANSTO in the preparation of the performance based specification for the reactor and were responsible for the preparation of prequalification and tender documentation. Other tasks included the preparation of an acquisition strategy for the project, the documentation of the project control budget and program, the preparation of prequalification and tender evaluation plans and participation in the prequalification of reactor vendors.
