Sinclair Knight Merz carried out the multi-disciplinary engineering design of the topside facilities for an offshore oil and gas utilities platform, off the coast of Indonesia.
The scope included the process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and structural design of the double-deck topside and four legged jacket, and engineering design of the loadout, seafastening and installation of the topside during its movement from the onshore fabrication facility to installation on the offshore jacket.
Rather than use the conventional, and expensive, installation of the topside by crane barge, our team proposed an innovative "floatover" installation method that was the key to winning the project for our client.
The project team made extensive use of the Sinclair Knight Merz extranet system to coordinate activities, distribute documents, and provide trans-continental and cross-time zone communication between our Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Jakarta and Balikpapan offices, major equipment suppliers, and our Indonesian clients.
