Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS)
Abstract
Following studies of the need for ATMS on Auckland’s motorways, Transit New Zealand commissioned a Project Management Consultant in March 1998, to undertake three main tasks: plan an initial deployment of ATMS on the Northern Motorway and subsequently prepare contract documents to procure the system and operations functions, and develop a master plan for the deployment of ATMS throughout Auckland.
This paper describes the process used by Transit New Zealand to determine the objectives and goals of the project and the subsequent process that defined the scheme. The paper will also describe the scheme, how it will be implemented, and the anticipated extension of ATMS throughout the Auckland region.
