Overview of Shaft Sinking Methods
Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the three commonly used shaft sinking methods being practised today. The purpose of the paper is to provide the project planner and mine designer an insight into the different shaft sinking methods. A brief review of the equipment used and their capabilities is provided to assist in the selection of suitable plant. The relative cost and schedule issues for the shaft sinking methods are discussed. This information is to assist decisions being made at the pre-feasibility stage of the project.
