Bondi RIAMP STP Underground Facilty
Abstract
The Bondi RIAMP STP is an upgrade to the existing sewerage treatment facility. The RIAMP program requires the upgrade of six plant areas. With a large proportion of the Bondi STP housed underground in chambers cut from sandstone, improved access to the existing underground area is required. New underground construction for a Truck Access Tunnel and for a Grit and Screening Chamber had to contend with the requirement to avoid disruption to the existing Bondi STP operations. The rock was excavated using a roadheader where previous excavation on this site had been by drill and blast. Prior to detailed design the existing tunnels and chambers were surveyed using a 3D laser technology.
