The Automation of Chute Design
Abstract
Hood and spoon chute design is time consuming to optimise due to the inter-dependence of design variables, and the iterative nature of the design process. Chute designers usually use design tools such as AutoCAD® and Microsoft Excel TM. The use of independent design tools is prone to errors when transferring design data between the tools. This paper presents the results of an SKM Project to create an integrated design tool that utilises the applied mechanics design method proposed by Roberts [1], [2],[3]. The chute design tool allows the designer to optimise the chute design within a short period, and the output chute geometry provides the ready production of engineering drawings for fabrication.
