The Evolving Regulatory Regime
Abstract
Since the initial dash for gas in the early 1990s the regulatory regime for power plant has moved on a pace. The planning and consenting requirements of the United Kingdom (UK), coupled with the increasing expectations of stakeholders, have provided a continually moving target for the unwary developer of new build power stations in the UK. Whilst the fundamental requirements for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) have remained constant, the depth and breadth of the studies required, and stakeholder expectations, has increased. In addition a number of other regulatory requirements and Government guidance have or may shortly come in to force. These are discussed below.
