Jacobs Enhances UK Graduate Development Programme

Jacobs has made several enhancements to its U.K. Graduate Development Programme (GDP), providing graduates with greater opportunities to gain valuable experience, build relevant competencies and enhance the personal qualities that are important for developing successful, rewarding careers. Jacobs’ industry leading UK GDP, now in its 25th year, has seen more than 1200 graduates complete the programme in the last decade.

The updated programme can now be completed in two years, with flexibility to add activities after this period, giving participants the potential for exposure to a broader range of work experiences and competencies. The programme is transferable between projects across the diverse industry sectors Jacobs serves and is aligned with relevant professional institutions to support progression towards chartership.

Commenting on the value of the programme, Jacobs Business Management Intern Jo Jeffreys said, “The learning and development opportunities at Jacobs have been invaluable in shaping my career path. Initially, I worked on several projects as a geo-environmental scientist in utilities and transportation. I was then selected to pilot a business management and sales placement within Jacobs’ Sustainable Solutions group, where I’ve gained meaningful insight into aspects such as business communications, business development, creative design and project delivery.

“I successfully co-founded a small regional Jacobs Future Network chapter, which today reaches out to 270 young professionals across the North West of England. Three years on, I now co-chair the entire Jacobs Future Network in the U.K. and Ireland, which connects people with up to five years of workplace experience with colleagues locally, regionally and throughout the world.”

Jacobs Graduate Transport Planner Pramod Dahal added, “When I was studying at university, I knew I wanted to join a company where I could get involved in challenging and extremely diverse projects; potentially projects I could one day say with pride I was involved with.
